Basics
Crowley is a SSR Balance unit. His max HP is 14,020 and his max attack is 6,345. Crowley’s HP is way above the all cards and just SSRs averages. And honestly his attack is surprisingly good, too. It’s just a little above the SSR average, and it’s way above the all cards average.
Spells
His spell 1 is Zero Ray and later Zero Ray 2, his spell 2 is Void Shot 2 and then later Zero Ray 2, and his spell 3 is Void Shot 2. So yeah, mono void unit. So Crowley gets all C’s when it comes to exams because well, mono void unit.
Skills
For skills, he’s got HP regeneration. He has no skills on spell 1 because it upgrades to a hits-twice spell. If you want his healing, you have to unlock his spell 3.
He starts off with a tiny HP regeneration to allies for 3 turns. So like, at least once you unlock it, there’s SOMETHING. It would suck if you had to raise this spell level to get the skill period. But anyways. At level 5, it’s a minor HP regeneration to allies for 3 turns, and that’s as far as it levels up.
DUO Magic + Buddy Bonuses
His DUO Magic Partner is Grim with a minor HP boost and minor power boost. His other Buddies are Deuce with a minor HP boost and Vil who gives him a minor power boost.
Build Guide
All right, so let’s talk about building, starting with the basics. In order to Groovy Crowley, you'll need to get him to power level 40 and vignette level 3. Groovying doesn't use any Thaumarks, but it will cost 5 Raven Candy. You can get those in the shop with the other Groovy Candies. As for uncapping, he'll need 0-12 SSR Awakening Perfumes. Each uncap costs 3 Perfume, so the more copies you get, the less Perfumes you'll be using.
Now we got spells. Each spell individually needs 351 void notepads, 253 void textbooks, 31 void grimoires, and 318,100 Thaumarks. However, because he’s mono void, you’re going to need a load of void items. In total, to max everything out, you will need 1,053 notepads, 759 textbooks, 93 grimoires, and 954,000 Thaumarks.
When it comes to deciding what to prioritize on building, everything important is at spell level 5. All his spells upgrade at level 5, so I guess you don’t really need to level him all the way to 10 on each spell, since there’s nothing there. I would still suggest it, but it’s a pretty low priority. And I know what I’m about to say will seem like sacrilege since y’all know I love healers, but honestly? I think you can hold off on unlocking spell 3. Now, if you need a healer, what I just said doesn’t apply, but I think his 4 hits of strong void magic is a lot more important than his healing since we have loads of healers in the game, but not really void units that hit this much, you know?
Alternatives + Dupes
So Crowley’s a bit interesting when it comes to alternative units. Like yes, there are some solid options, but then there’s not so solid options. My recommendations would be Dorm Uniform Malleus as our spell match option since they literally have the same spells in the same slots, Cerberus Gear Ortho because he can be mono void and he has healing, Striped Ribbon Grim because he’s a great budget version of Crowley minus the healing, and PE Uniform Malleus because he has healing and one void spell. There’s actually no void/void rare units in the game so this is as good as we can get. There’s not even any in JP right now, it’s just not a thing.
Final Thoughts
So I have this card on JP and I’m gonna be honest, I don’t really use him all that much. BUT I wanna add context that I have a fully maxed out Dorm Uniform Malleus, so I already have a super strong mono void unit that’s completely built. I mean yeah, Malleus doesn’t have healing, but I don’t use Crowley’s healing and I just don’t really use him period. I still think he’s a great card, but I personally don’t have a huge need for him outside of the event.
I think it you don’t have Dorm Malleus, this would be a good option to look at. At least, if you want a void unit.
