Arcane Combat Drills with Crowley Event Guide

 Intro

I'll just say it now: I really don't like these events for a variety of reasons. But they're coming to EN and I want y'all to be prepared. Getting stuff first in JP is very nice, but the hugest downside is that we're also the guinea pigs when it comes to new event types. And I think I can safely say this event kinda threw people off, myself included. I'm really hoping EN tones down the difficulty, especially since ACD events past this one have been easier on JP, but we don't know for sure yet.

The short explanation for these events is that you go through 7 battle maps to earn prizes. But there are some new mechanics I need to explain, so let’s start off with explaining those.

Overview

So battle map events are similar to the battle maps we’ve had in chapter 7. But for those who haven’t played chapter 7 yet, here’s how they work.
Each space has its own challenge. It’ll be a battle that you need to win. Upon winning, you’ll advance to that space and maybe win some prizes. You start off the event with 10 energy, which is the max amount you can have. It takes an hour for 1 energy to regenerate on its own. If you want to go a little faster, you can use Move Tickets. 1 Move Ticket equals 1 energy, and you can earn these tickets from special map tiles and missions.
There’s a total of 7 maps. Maps can have 1 or 2 minibosses and then 1 final boss, Crowley. I know it’s tempting to make a beeline for Crowley, but I would really discourage that for a couple of reasons.
First reason, it turns out if you don’t do all the tiles, when you beat Crowley, the map will automatically reset and you don’t get the rewards from those tiles you missed. So you have to start all over again from square 1 to get the rewards from spaces you didn’t do the first time. And because this is a limited-time event and energy is limited, I would really recommend just going through the entire map and leaving Crowley for last. That way you don’t have to go back and redo portions of the map just to get a few rewards you missed. I had to do that with Heartslabyul and it sucked. I couldn’t just go and do the spaces I missed. I had to do basically everything again.
And second reason, some of these bosses are ridiculously difficult and some spaces give you buffs against the boss. For easier maps like Heartslabyul or Savanaclaw, you may not need it, but for Pomefiore, Ignihyde, and Diasomnia? YES, YES YOU NEED IT. You’re gonna need all the buffs and boss debuffs you can get.
If you manage to pull Crowley, he will be a bonus card you can use. You don’t have to add him to your initial character team picks, he’ll just show up if you pulled him. After talking with some friends though, it appears this isn’t like chapter 7 where the game gave you General Lilia as a guest unit even if you didn’t pull him. Crowley is only a guest unit if you pulled him. The game will not lend him out to you for the event if you didn’t pull him.
Also like, if you reset the map manually, it doesn’t take away rewards you’ve already won. You can’t earn them twice, though.
That’s pretty much all the mechanics you need to know. Now, I know what I’m about to say is something some of you aren’t gonna want to hear, but I ask you hear me out. This event is hard. This event is really hard. I’m not saying this to scare you, I’m telling you this because 1) I want you to be prepared and 2) Before the event starts, I want you to start thinking about your priorities for this event are and when you might want to throw in the towel.
I know most people are gonna want to finish the event. I wish I’d been able to too so I could use all my own notes and nothing from other people. But you need to ask, what’s the most important reason that you’re playing this event. Are you doing it for the rewards? Are you doing it for fun? Are you doing it for the title? All of these are valid reasons to play, but they’re gonna impact HOW you play this event.
If you’re playing for rewards, at some point you are going to have to quit unless you have an insanely good card roster with like, everyone fully built or something. The game gives you rare rewards like SSR Awakening Perfumes and more importantly, Retry Tickets. Since these maps are like chapter 7’s, at some point you’re going to be tempted to use those Tickets in this event instead of saving them. That’s what I did. I invested them back into the event and that was a giant mistake. Because not only did I NOT earn them back… Yeah, that’s the biggest issue. Like the other rewards are really nice, but Retry Tickets are like gold. You NEED to hang onto those and so if you’re playing the event for rewards, DO NOT USE THEM IN THIS EVENT. Unless they’re Move Tickets, since I’m pretty sure those don’t carry over, do not use any rewards you got from this event in this event. You are going to regret it, trust me. That’s what I did and I’m still kicking myself months later.
If you’re playing for other reasons, that whole spiel doesn’t really concern you, but I’d still think about how much time you’re willing to sink into this event because it’s absolutely a time sink.
So yeah. With that out of the way, let’s talk about each map individually. All of these battles have infinite turn, just as a heads up

Map 1 Overview

A map of Heartslabyul with tiles on it. The tiles are numbered left to right in columns

Map 1, which is set in Heartslabyul, has a total of 14 spaces (it's really 13 though). You will have to pick 5 characters to form teams from. Now, we don't have a lot of variety when it comes to tiles. It’s basically all battles.

Tile Diff. Enemy's HP Debuffs Element 1 Element 2 Element 3 Element 4 Buff Reward
1 1 13120 -- Fire Flora Water -- --
2 2 15330 Heal water fire flora void --
3 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 5 random charas healed
4 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- power boost
5 1 12590 Curse Water Fire -- -- --
6 3 17600 -- Flora Void -- -- --
7 1 13070 Heal Fire Flora -- -- --
8 2 15420 -- Fire Void -- -- --
9 2 15550 -- Fire Flora Water -- --
10 1 12690 -- water fire flora void --
11 1 12670 -- Fire Water Flora -- --
12 4 26640 -- Fire -- -- -- Major power drain boss
13 4 45000 Heal Fire Flora Water Void --
14 3 18380 Heal water flora -- -- --

Looking at element distribution, although there’s slightly more fire spells, I don’t think it’s by that much when looking at flora and water. I guess if you wanna play it safe, you may wanna consider characters that you have more water units in, but really, I don’t think it really matters with numbers like this.
Most battles are at a difficulty level of 1, so fairly easy if you’ve got a lot of built units. I will say personally, this map gave me no problems when it came to battles. I had issues with it, but that was because I was a fucking idiot and didn’t do every tile. So that’s a me problem, not a game problem.

Map 2 Overview

A map of Savanaclaw with tiles on it. The tiles are numbered going left to right, and in columns

Map 2, which is set in Savanaclaw, has a total of 19 spaces. Honestly, it’s just like Map 1. You need to pick 5 characters, all battles have infinite turns, there’s not a lot of variety when it comes to tile types.

Tile Diff. Enemy's HP Debuffs Element 1 Element 2 Element 3 Element 4 Buff Reward
1 1 17240 Blind Flora Void -- -- --
2 3 24040 Heal Fire -- -- -- --

17 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- minor damage cut
18 2 18160 Blind Fire Void -- -- --
19 2 23470 Heal Water Flora -- -- --

So when it comes to difficulty, most battles have a difficulty of 2. Again, personally I didn’t have any issues with these battles, but I do have a roster of a lot of level 80 and above cards so. I’ve been playing jP since it launched so my SSRs are leveled, for the most part.
Elements-wise, it’s pretty uniform. Everything is around a quarter, it’s actually a better distribution than map 1, so I don’t think you need to focus on units of a specific element. Like it’s not really skewed in one way.

Map 3 Overview

A map of Octavinelle with tiles on it. The tiles are numbered left to right, in columns

Map 3, which is set in Octavinelle, has a total of 24 spaces. Now, I wanna make a quick note here. I thought I got all the spaces’ info written down, but apparently I did only 19? I could’ve sworn I did all 24 spaces, but I guess not. So the info for spaces 20-24 is from TwstSoku.

21 2 ?? ?? fire water void -- --
22 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 5 random charas healed
23 2 ?? ?? fire flora void -- --

When it comes to difficulty, most fights are at a 2, so not too bad. Elements-wise, there’s more void than anything, and while it’s noticeable I don’t think it’s enough to tell you guys to gear up against void specifically.

Map 4 Overview

Map of Scarabia with tiles on it. The tiles are numbered left to right, up and down

Map 4, which is set in Scarabia, has a total of 29 spaces. This is where I personally started running into difficult battles and not getting through things in one go. My units are okay, like they’re all in their 80s with various spell levels, so uh yeah, this is where I personally think things start getting difficult. You will need to pick 6 characters to make teams from, just like the last map.

27 2 25440 -- fire void -- -- --
28 3 30180 -- fire water -- -- --
29 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- up to 3 random charas healed

Most battles are either a 2 or 3 when it comes to difficulty, with 3 being a little more prevalent. But it’s pretty even it comes to element distribution. Everything’s about a quarter.

Map 5 Overview

Map of Pomefiore with tiles on it. The tiles are numbered left to right in columns
Map 5, which is set in Pomefiore, has a total of 34 spaces. This map absolutely handed my ass to me and I really struggled to get through it. I did get through it, but it wasn’t pretty. You’ll pick 7 characters to make teams from.

Like the last map, most battles are a 2 or a 3 when it comes to difficulty. It does not feel that way, I’ll tell you that. There’s a bit more fire than other elements, but honestly this is like map 3 where I don’t think it’s quite at the point to tell you to stop up on water units. It could help, but honestly I would only tell you guys to gear up if it hit like, 45ish% or higher.

Map 6 Overview

A map of Ignihyde with tiles. The tiles are numbered left to right, up to down

Map 6, which is set in Ignihyde, has a total of 39 spaces. You will need to make a roster of 7 characters to make teams from. This is the point I gave up in the event. I did try to finish it, but I just couldn’t. I was able to get most information for the tiles though, so that was good. But supplementary info is from TwstSoku and I feel terrible but someone on Twitter who screen-recorded their fight with Crowley. I forgot to bookmark it and I just described how much damage he did.

Tile 15, the boss fight, is a void battle. The enemy has 85,000 HP with healing and like most fights in this map, a damage cut to whatever element they have. This battle is ranked at a 5 difficulty. From my one (1) bullet point I made on the doc outline, I wrote, ahem, "Dire ridiculously strong like at like 20k and mostly a lot of 9ks in a row." That is verbatim the one note I took about that Twitter video. I'm assuming I meant he can hit as high as 20,000 damage. I didn’t get up to him. I got within like, one or two tiles from him by making a beeline for him, but at that point I was so tired and frustrated with this event I just gave up.
Most battles are a 3 difficulty, followed by 2. When it comes to spell elements, 43% of the battles are with void. It’s not quite 45% but it’s close enough. I would really focus on super strong units with DUO Magic to fight against those units. Void has no advantage over it, so the best you’re gonna be able to do is 3 spell hits and just strong units in general.

Map 7 Overview

Map 7, which is set in Diasomnia, has a total of 44 tiles. I wasn’t able to unlock it, so I'm gonna direct you to TwstSoku for this one. They're tables are color-coded, so you don't necessarily need to know Japanese to figure out elements.

Outro

I’m gonna be so honest, I’m honestly not really looking forward to this event. It’s not my favorite. I like all the rare prizes, but the fights can honestly be hard, especially down the line. I’m gonna focus on getting prizes, so I don’t know how far I’ll make it, but I guess we’ll see. To completionists, good luck guys. This event’s not a walk in the park.

SSR Apple Pom Jamil

Basics Jamil is a SSR Attack unit. His max HP is 8,754 and his max attack is 7,506. I'm sure no one's surprised to see that while his attack is far above average, because of that, his HP is below average. Like I said earlier, he’s one of the strongest cards in the game at this point. Spells His spell 1 is Flame Blast, his spell 2 is Leaf Shot 2 and later Forest Strike 2, and his spell 3 is Water Shot 2. Exam Rankings So, how does this card rank for exams? I'd give him a B for flora, D for fire, and C for water. Skills For skills, he’s got nullify freeze, power boost, power boost again, and damage cut. On spell 1 at level 1, he has a nullify freeze for allies for 1 turn. At level 5, he gains a minor power boost to caster for 1 turn, and at level 10, it maxes out at a modest power boost. On spell 3, he starts off with nothing. You gotta get him to level 5 for additional skills. And when you get him to level 5, he gains a minor power boost to caster for 1 turn, and at level ...

SSR New Years Rook Card Analysis

Basics Rook is a SSR Defense unit. His max HP is 16,400 and his max attack is 4,289. Rook has PHENOMENAL HP, being far about the SSR and all cards averages. He has the highest HP stat in the game, finally ending Clubwear Lilia’s reign. And like I’ve touched on before in this video, because one is super high, the other is pretty low. His attack is far below the SSR and all cards averages. It’s basically at the R card average for attack.   Spells His spell 1 is Aqua Wave, his spell 2 is Fire Shot 2 and later Flame Blast 2, and his spell 3 is Void Shot 2.   Exam Rankings When it comes to exams, I'd give this card a C for flora exams, B for fire, and D for water.   Skills For skills, he’s got resistance and power drain. On spell 1 at level 1, he has a minor resistance to caster for 1 turn. At level 5, it’s for 3 turns, and at level 10, it maxes out at modest resistance to caster for 3 turns. On spell 3, he starts off with a minor power drain on foe for 1 turn. At level...
